After a long, courageous battle with chronic pain and illness, Eileen will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
Eileen was born in Innishanon, Ireland but moved to England at the young age of 16 during the last years of WWII. It was here that she met Reg whom she married in 1947. Eileen and Reg had four children and in 1968 made the decision to move the family to Vancouver, BC, Canada. After 10 years they moved once again, settling in Calgary, Alberta.
Eileen is survived by her son Gordon (Mary), her daughter Lesley (Jim) and her daughter Andrée (Brian). Eileen was also blessed with 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren and was looking forward to celebrating the upcoming birth of her 12th great grandchild later this year.
Eileen was predeceased by her parents, her 8 siblings, her husband Reg and her youngest son Antony.
Eileen lived a long and full life, always busy working and parenting through our growing years. She will always be fondly remembered by family and friends not only for her wonderful home baking, but also for her sewing, knitting and love of story-telling. In later years, jigsaw puzzles, reading and watching hockey became her passion as her mobility was challenged by the onset of osteoporosis and rheumatoid arthritis throughout her body.
She let it be known to anyone close by that she was the Calgary Flames biggest fan! If she wasn’t watching hockey, Eileen could be found deep into the pages of a good book!
Throughout her life, Eileen’s strong belief in her Catholic faith kept her prayerful, trusting and courageous until the end. She always looked forward to her visits with the ladies from the Catholic Women’s League of Holy Name Church and from her priest and the Pastoral Care volunteers of St James’ Parish. She spent her last years at Royal Park Nursing Home, cared for by the dedicated and loving staff. We, her family, will be forever grateful for everything they did for her.
Mum, Eileen, Grandma, Great Grandma, you were a strong and loving (though sometimes tenacious) lady! We will miss you, but carry our memories of you forever in our hearts.
