July 13, 1919 – January 30, 2011
It is with sad hearts we announce the passing of Edward Sadler. Our father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away quietly and peacefully on Sunday, January 30, 2011. It was three months to the day, his loving wife of sixty-eight years, Kathleen Sadler passed away. Ed was born in Wick, Scotland and moved to Canada and was raised in Moose Jaw, SK. It was there he met and married his childhood sweetheart. Ed joined the Canadian Pacific Railway as a young man and rose through the ranks. He enlisted with the Royal Canadian Air Force in 1939 to 1945, then resumed his position with the CPR. Throughout his career, he worked across Western Canada before being transferred to Saint John, New Brunswick as Superintendant of CPR’s Eastern Division. Ed held the position for more than a decade before his retirement. Throughout his life, Ed was an active member of the Masonic Order and Shriners organization. Ed and Kay retired in North Vancouver and later moved to White Rock, B.C. They enjoyed wonderful holidays in Palm Springs, CA for more than thirty years and loved travelling around the world. They moved to Calgary, AB in 2005, to be closer to family. Ed and Kay lived their final years together at the Bow View Manor Nursing Home. Ed was devoted to Kay and spent every day by her side, before she passed. Ed leaves behind his children, Brenda Platzer (Mark) and Jerry Sadler (Joanne); six grandchildren, Krista Platzer (Scott Deibert), Bob Platzer (Andrea Fitzgerald), Mark Platzer, Lindsay Kelcher (Dave), Paul Sadler (Sara) and Nancy Sadler; nine great grandchildren, Jayne and Reese Deibert, Adeline and Emily Kelcher, Logan Platzer, Matthew, Kyle, and Grace Sadler, and Brady Sadler. A Celebration of Ed’s Life will be held at a later date. If friends so desire, memorial donations may be made directly to the Shriners Children's Hospital, 1155 Wilkes Avenue, Winnipeg, MB R3P 1B9. Many grateful thanks to the Bow View Manor Nursing Home for their compassion, love and care over the past three years. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
