Doreen grew up in the Highlands area of Edmonton and was always known to her friends as “Dutch”. After high school she took medical training as a lab and x-ray technician. In the early 50’s she became a Stewardess and flew with Western Airlines. Her love of travel blossomed from there.
Her travels and friendships took her to all over the world. She made friends young and old and those friendships took her to visit them in places such as; Australia, China, Columbia, Costa Rica, Czech Republic, Europe, Peru, South Africa, UK, United Arab Emirates, as well as Canada and the US. Most summers were spent at Ma-Me-O beach.
In the 60’s she raised her family in Sherwood Park, AB. In the mid-70’s she briefly lived in the Canary Islands. Since the 80’s Calgary has been her home. She embraced the mountains and was very active XC skiing, downhill skiing, (until she was 82) plus she was an avid hiker.
Doreen was an excellent cook, enjoyed entertaining and did it with class. She had a creative flair and always dressed in-style. She loved to play bridge. Her door was always open to any visitors and her home was considered grand central station.
She left a great legacy of strength, love and authenticity. She brought sunshine where ever she went and radiated a love for life.
She leaves behind her sister Marlene along with her children Patty, Jim, Jacqueline and Blaine (Debbie) and grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Kayla, Wyatt and Lauren.
Doreen left a deep and lasting impression on our hearts. The more love she gave, the more love she got. She will be sorely missed by all those lives she touched.
A special thanks to her Guardian Angel.
Her life will be celebrated at a later date when her family from the US can come together.
