Don was born in Kaiping, Canton, China on September 10, 1927. He immigrated to Fernie, BC in 1949 where he worked in his father’s restaurant. In 1967, Don visited Hong Kong, China, where he met and married Suzan. Together in Champion, a small southern-Alberta town, they raised three sons. It was while they ran Don’s Café that he found his passion for cooking and baking. Don retired in 1986 and moved to Calgary in 2001 where he could be closer to his family and thoroughly enjoy his grandchildren. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved spending hours fishing, hunting, and gardening, as well as the occasional auction sale. Don knew how to enjoy the little things in life, like relaxing in his La-Z-Boy recliner watching countless hours of Western movies and eating his favourite snacks.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Suzan, and his three sons, Jason (Vikki), Vincent (Judy) and Dickson (Robyn). His silliness, infectious laughter, and unwavering smile will be fondly remembered by his seven grandchildren: Brandon, Tiana, Tyler, Samantha, Ella, Sarah and Emily.
