Donald Alfred Stables, 63, passed away in Calgary on March 25, 2017, surrounded by his family, following a brief illness. Don was predeceased by his wife Gloria and his brother David. He is survived by his children Megan, Lindsay (Dan), Patrick (Tenielle), Andrew, and Jillian (Mike); grandchildren Braxton, Novalee, Finnigan, Kai, Ohli; and partner Pamela Knezevich. Don is also survived by his parents Thomas and Gladys; sisters Debbie Ricalton (Ken) and Sharon Jacque (Kim); sister-in-law Diane; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Calgary, AB, Don hitchhiked across Canada, returning to the Calgary area where he got into ranching early. He eventually ended up working in the oil patch, where his work took him into the U.S. before bringing him back to Western Canada. Don and Gloria settled on a ranch in Fort St. John, B.C., where they raised their children, becoming active community members and great neighbours. After retirement, Don moved to Forest Grove, B.C., to pursue his love of fishing, and had just recently settled in Chilliwack, B.C. Don loved to spend time with his young grandchildren and was looking forward to the arrival of yet one more in July.
A Memorial Service will be held in Calgary and announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations being made in Don’s memory directly to the Adult & Teen Challenge Society of B.C., (http://www.teenchallengebc.com/donation-page/).
