As she transitions to the spirit world of her ancestors, she will be lovingly remembered and missed by her son Bradley, daughter Rheana, and husband Edward; sisters Donna, Elaine, Jackie, and Barbara; brothers Tommy, Douglas, Ronald, and Donald; nieces and nephews; and many special friends.
She is predeceased by her father, Alfred Gene Morin (1957); mother, Irene (Whitford) Lippke (2017); and brothers James (1977) and Patrick (2021).
Diane was born on June 29, 1954, in Wainwright, Alberta. Her childhood was marked by the early passing of her father in 1957. Her mother struggled to raise her young children, who were eventually made wards of the government in 1958. The children were separated and moved through multiple foster homes. Diane counted 22 foster placements until she was 18 years old. Despite her early childhood challenges, she successfully completed her post-secondary education and went on to work at law firms as a legal secretary in Edmonton and Calgary before taking a break to raise her two children.
Diane’s last 30+ years were spent discovering and embracing her Métis and Indigenous roots. Her working career was devoted to helping others. She leaves a legacy of support and betterment to countless individuals who sought to improve their life skills, education, and careers through her work as a counsellor and manager within organizations designated to help the Métis communities of Alberta. Diane was incredibly compassionate and intuitive to the needs of others and took everyone under her wing. She was enormously proud of her children, who gave her so much joy. Her beautiful smile and infectious laugh will be long remembered. What a special gift she was to so many who were a part of her life’s journey
Diane’s family wishes to extend their immense gratitude to all who have sent well wishes and prayers to Diane as she moved through her illness with tenacity and steadfast determination to prevail. The family’s utmost appreciation goes out to the doctors, nurses, and caregivers at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, Foothills Medical Centre, and Foothills Country Hospice for the compassionate care she received in her final days.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Diane’s memory be made directly to the Foothills Country Hospice Society, at http://www.countryhospice.org/support-us/.
