January 24, 1925 – June 23, 2017
On Friday, June 23, 2017 we lost a kind and loving man. Dave Fisher passed away peacefully at the age of 92 years; his body just ran out of steam to keep going. Dave was born in Calgary to Robina and Fredrick Fisher. He was pre-deceased by his wife Thora and his parents and two older brothers, Fred and Bill. Dave spent his childhood in the Mission area of Calgary, playing in the Elbow River and the nearby hills. Dave began work with the CPR in 1942 and then joined the RCAF in 1943 and the Army a year later. Dave met the love of his life, Thora, and they were married in 1950 in Calgary. They celebrated their 65th anniversary in 2015. Dave worked for the CPR for over 43 years retiring as a Stores Inspector. With Thora, they raised four children, son Bill (Ruby), daughter Diane (Rod), son Rob (Cathy) and son Don (Shelley) and eight beloved grandchildren: Kim, Allison, Andrew, David, Heather, Christine, Lane and Mark. Dave was a loyal and committed father who took great pride and joy in his children and grandchildren and their spouses and partners. He enjoyed woodworking, gardening, fishing, golfing and later on in life simply puttering around. He was a man of measured words and he also loved to tease and be teased. We miss him dearly. Lang may yer lum reek! A funeral service will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel (3220-4 St. N.W. Calgary, Alberta) on July 4, 2017 at 10:00 am. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca. If friends so desire, memorial donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of Calgary, the Alberta Cancer Foundation, or the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Canada.
