Curtis was born and raised in Victoria Beach, Manitoba, a place very dear to his heart. In his early career he worked in the Alberta Government for the Department of Economic Development, followed by several stellar years in the banking sector. In 1981, Curtis pursued his dream of owning and operating his own business. Curtis, his wife Sheila and partner, Tim Reynolds operated their management consulting business, Whyte Reynolds International for 30 years – a period of outstanding personal accomplishment that filled Curtis with pride; born of his huge work ethic, exemplary principles and his unbridled quest for excellence, which in no small way fulfilled his dreams of doing his own thing and surviving and winning in a competitive marketplace, while supporting his family and enjoying the rewards of being his own man. Throughout his career with his company, Curtis worked in 21 countries. The family lived in Indonesia from 1989 – 1992, a period the family of four have thrived on ever since.
Curtis and Sheila retired in 2012 and were able to pursue their love of travelling. They lived their dreams, travelled to the places they wanted to and recently determined they had accomplished their long-held goals to see what they wanted to see and settled for a life of well-earned warmth; with winters in their new condo in Arizona, and summers in Calgary they could maximize their time with children and grandchildren, while enhancing their opportunities to enjoy golf, springtime baseball camps and Curt’s passion for the Stampeders, Flames and friends year round.
Curtis passed away feeling himself to be a fortunate man, with no regrets and a pride in the way he carried himself throughout his life. He was an honest, caring, thoughtful and considerate person. The world has lost a good man. He was admired by more people than he knew for his steadfast dedication to his core values, enviable moral code and compassion for all in his midst. He was always the first to lend a helping hand – he will be missed by a far-flung and not insignificant number of admirers.
Curtis was the loving husband for 46 years, of Sheila; devoted father to Carrie (Beau) Langevin and Lola Whyte; the doting Poppa to Mathurin and Mika Langevin. He is also survived by his sister Sharon (Walter) Funk and family; brother-in-law Bob Good; foster-sister Bonnie (Irv) Hildebrand and family; brother-in-law Rick (Sandy) Harrison and family; as well as his sister-in-law Julie (Ken) Otto and family. He is predeceased by his parents Walter and Ellen Whyte as well as his sister Maureen Whyte.
The family wishes to thank Dr. Namira Ali Mohamad, Dr. Jackson Wu, Dr. Amane Abdul Razzak, Dr. Lyle Galloway, the wonderful staff on the Unit 47 Tom Baker Cancer Centre and the compassion shown to Curtis by the dedicated and kind staff at the Sarcee Hospice.
A Celebration of Curtis’ Life will be held at Foster’s Garden Chapel, 3220 – 4th Street NW, Calgary, Alberta (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery), on Thursday, October 4, 2018 at 10:00 a.m.
