It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our Husband, Father, Grandfather and Great-Grandfather, Cecil George Barrett, who passed away peacefully surrounded by wife, his children, grandchildren and brother and sister. Cecil was born in Guys Hill, St. Catherine, Jamaica to Iris and William Barrett. Cecil grew up in Guys Hill, before he accompanied his to be future wife, Minnette McKie, to his new home of Calgary, Alberta, Canada in 1971. Cecil spent his early years in Canada honing his profession of plumbing and pipefitting and soon joined Kvaerner, where he worked for the next 40 years and was a proud member of the Boilermakers Lodge 146, until his retirement in 2012. During his time at Kvaerner, Cecil travelled the world, with extended stays in Nigeria, Algeria, Malaysia and Azerbaijan. True to his nature, Cecil made friends all over the world, who to this day have stayed in contact with him and his family. When not busy working, he could be found supporting his community and spending time with his family and friends. Cecil was always willing to help out friends and family in whatever ways he could. Cecil was a pillar of the Caribbean Community, and an ever present fixture and supporter of community events. He was particularly active and supportive of the Jamaican Community Association, volunteering in multiple capacities. Cecil was also an avid sports lover, with Cricket being his first and foremost love both as a spectator and participant. Cecil is survived by Minnette, his wife of 47 years, and his children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, brothers and sisters and extended family.
