Carla Jane (Boden) Stinson

With incredibly broken hearts, we said goodbye to our Mom, Oma, Gramma, Partner, Aunt, Sister and Best Friend. Carla passed away peacefully at Chinook Hospice on January 1, 2020 at the age of 78 years.

Carla was born in Consort, Alberta in 1941, to Henry and Elsie Boden. She worked in the family restaurant in Chinook, Alberta where she met the love of her life, Roger Thomas at the age of 12. After going their separate ways, Carla moved to Calgary and attended Marvel Hair School and later met her late husband of 29 years John Stinson. She opened a home-based hair salon and continued hairdressing until she and John started their family. Carla devoted her time and energy to raising their 3 children, then went back to school and upgraded her hairdressing license. She then worked at Sarcee Nursing Home doing hair for all the residents.

In 1994 after being widowed for four years, Carla reunited with Roger and together they built a wonderful life, traveling, camping and fishing with family and friends. Carla and Roger moved from Calgary to Trochu, Alberta where they purchased an acreage, ‘El Rancho’. Carla loved gardening and scrap booking and over the years, she made close to 30 cherished scrapbooks for her family.

In 2006, they moved to Stavely, Alberta where they enjoyed travelling to Yuma, family gatherings, getting to know their neighbors, renovating their home and most of all their grandkids.

Finally, in 2017, Carla and Roger decided it was time to downsize due to health reasons and called Olds, Alberta their new home. They enjoyed being closer to family and grandkids.

In November 2019, Carla made her final move to Chinook Hospice where she received the utmost care and love from all the staff. She was always happy and smiling, right until the last hours of her life. Her positivity was an inspiration to all who knew and loved her.

Carla is survived by her partner Roger, daughters Stacey (Gabe) and Tara (Deron), son Jason (Jennifer), grandkids Josiah, Caleb, Rebecca, Abigail, Naomi, Nathan and Jayvan. Carla is also survived by her sister Ella (Vaughn) and brother Rick (Marilyn), nieces Kelly, Michele (Harold), and Marley and nephew Marshall (Yasmin). Carla was predeceased by her husband John, nephew Vince and niece Dixie.

Mom, the pain of your loss is almost more than we can bear. You showed us how to live by example. You held our family together and we will continue to hold each other close and love each other as you loved us.

A Memorial Reception celebrating Carla’s life will be held at SOUTH CALGARY FUNERAL CENTRE, 12700 Macleod Trail South (at Lake Fraser Gate), on Thursday, January 9, 2020 at 11:00 a.m.
