Dad passed comfortably and surrounded by those he loved on February 13, 2020. He would have been 80 years old this May. In his early seventies Dad found out that he had progressive dementia and courageously faced all the changes that meant for him.
Along with his cherished family; his daughters Wendy (Bruce Low), Gwen and Pam, and his seven granddaughters; Tessa, Alanah, Brynn, Rebecca, Stephanie, Jackie and Holly; he enjoyed the small glories of every day, visits with family and friends, walks and hockey topped the list. And of course it wasn’t a good day if it didn’t include some chocolate!
Dad was born in Olds, Alberta and is also survived by his sisters Marilynn (Pat) Hoschka and Paulette (Walt) Bentz and their families. He attended university in Edmonton and graduated with a degree in mechanical engineering. He was proud of a long and successful career in the oil patch finally retiring in 2012.
Dad was a kind and gentle man who was predeceased by the love of his life, his wife Barb, on February 11, 2011. We like to think that they were together again this year for Valentine’s Day.
We would like to thank Laura, Tamara and Evelyn, his special caregivers, who helped Dad live his best life with dementia, as well as the kind and compassionate staff at Points West Living in Cochrane.
In keeping with Dad’s wishes there will be no funeral. A private gathering will take place when Mom and Dad are interred together.
However, if family and friends wish, donations may be made to the Hotchkiss Brain Institute at the University of Calgary https://hbi.ucalgary.ca to help further our understanding of Alzheimer’s and Dementia diseases.
