Bertha Josephine Fisher of Calgary passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre on Sunday, July 17, 2011. Born in Prince Edward Island on March 4, 1911, she moved to Saskatchewan with her father and grandparents at an early age. She attended school at the former Convent of Jesus and Mary in Gravelbourg, graduating at age 14. She married husband, John Fisher in Moose Jaw in 1927, and moved to Calgary with husband, Edward Fisher in 1967. Bertha will be remembered for her quiet sense of humour, kind and gentle heart, and everlasting love for her children and grandchildren. She reveled in the companionship of the numerous dogs that kept her company throughout her lifetime, never lost her passion for horses, and found great enjoyment in years gone by, in the simple pleasures of bowling, dancing and bingo. She had a desire to see more of the world which led her to travel to the Caribbean, South America, China, Europe, Hawaii, eastern Canada and the ever popular destination of Las Vegas. Her curiosity also caused her to be an avid consumer of news and she enjoyed a good discussion about current events. Bertha was predeceased by her father: J. Herman Kinch (1885-1972); mother: Eulelia Corcoran (1891-1914); brother: Lester T. Kinch (1914-1985); husbands: John Fisher (1898-1961) and Edward Fisher (1901-1976); and son-in-law: Ken Munro. To mourn her loss, she leaves daughter: Carol E. Munro; son: Delbert J. Fisher (Joyce); and son: F. Maurice Fisher (Norma), as well as 10 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren, and 11 great great grandchildren. It was her wish that a special message be offered to those who knew and loved her: "I have had a good life and I want to thank all of you for the many things you have done for me." Bertha will be forever cherished and lovingly remembered. A Celebration of Bertha’s Life was held at FOSTER’S GARDEN CHAPEL, 3220 – 4 Street N.W., Calgary (across from Queen’s Park Cemetery) on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 at 10:00 a.m. Expressions of sympathy may be forwarded to the family via the website www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
