Bernadette was born on January 24, 1932 in Doze Ribeiras, Terceira, Portugal. She was one of six children. Bernadette will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Henrique Enes. Bernadette immigrated to Canada in 1963 from Terceira, Portugal, to be with the love of her life and start their family.
Bernadette was a homemaker at heart, she always made sure her loved ones were well taken care of and her home was spotless. She could often be found inside cooking up a delicious meal, crocheting, or sewing. Her artistry will live on as the many beautiful pieces she crocheted over the years adorn the homes of family and friends. Bernadette was an exceptional seamstress, and sewed many outfits for herself and her daughter over the years.
Bernadette was a woman of faith and lived life serving others. For many years, she was an active member of the Portuguese Community, preparing food and assisting any way she could at Our Lady of Fatima Parish. She especially loved to welcome and help family and new comers settle into Canada from Portugal. Bernadette will be remembered for her kindness, generosity and devotion to her family.
Besides her husband, Bernadette is survived by her children John (Shannon) and Luizilda (Alfonso). She cherished the time spent and memories created with her grandchildren, Lauren (Colton), Michael, Alexander and Alissa. She adored her first great-grandchild, Noah. Family truly was Bernadette's pride and joy. She is also survived by her sister Maria, in-law’s Isidro (Rosa), and Maria Lina of Terceira, sister in-law Ludovina of Calgary, in-law’s José (Kathy), Manuel (Adelaide), Jeremias (Filomena), Joaquin (Palmira) of California. Bernadette is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents José Machado da Costa and Maria de Conceição Rocha, her sisters Carmelina and Fransisca and brothers Manuel and José.
