Mom was diagnosed with vascular dementia in 2010. She has spent the last few years in and out of hospital, a care facility and a nursing home. She did her best, fought the effects, let everyone know when she wasn’t happy, escaped a few times, and through it all; she still smiled at the little things. This disease took just about everything she was but we could always see just a glimmer of Mom left in there and it won’t take our cherished memories of her.
Audrey gave everything she had to her family and everything she could to others – some, complete strangers. Whether it was fostering a child in need overseas, making sandwiches for the homeless, or donating to endless charities; if she had a dollar in her pocket, she found a use for it.
Audrey loved to laugh, she loved to play cards and she loved her grandbabies – actually she loved all babies, she loved her kids and her family. Mom was the BEST cook and baker, and Sundays and holidays will not be the same without her. She was born into the Depression of the 1930’s in Black Diamond. She grew, married, worked, and raised her family in Alberta. She and Eric retired to Kelowna, BC in 1981, but Calgary was always ‘home” to her and she returned after his death in 1986.
Audrey is lovingly remembered by her 5 children, Garry, Blair (Trudy), Glenn (Diane), Lori, and Steve (Marilyn); as well as 6 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Cleo (Leona) Dease; sisters Ruby (Ted) Krause, Doreen Sanders and Lorraine Brooks; as well as sisters-in-law Skip Dease and Bert Dease.
She was predeceased by brothers Lloyd Dease and Norman Dease; sister Beverly (Pinky) Babb; husbands Richard Wetherell and Eric Bowman; and brothers-in-law Gerry Sanders and Bill Brooks.
We love you Mom, we love you Grandma and Great-Grandma. Sleep well, rest in peace.
Special thanks to the doctors and nurses of Unit 57 at the Rockyview Hospital, the nurses and caregivers at Wentworth Manor, and the nurses, doctors and sisters of Father Lacombe Providence Centre for the exceptional care you provided in her final years. Also thanks to Unit 68 of the South Health Campus, where Mom passed. Your every kindness is remembered.
