On Wednesday, April 06, 2022, at the age of 90, Albert (Al) Joseph Canal passed away peacefully at the Foothills Medical Centre in Calgary, Alberta. Al is survived by his wife, daughter, stepchildren, grandchildren and all those who dearly miss him.
Al was born August 29, 1931 in Port Arthur, Ontario and later moved to Calgary, Alberta where he worked as an iron and steel worker. Over his career, Al contributed to the construction of the railings at the Calgary Saddledome as well as the tracks for the Vancouver SkyTrain line.
He loved fishing, camping, gardening (especially tomatoes and raspberries), and doing puzzles. Most recently he kept up to date with all those too far away to visit through phone calls. You could often hear Al sharing funny quips and making people laugh. Whenever it was time for the bill at a restaurant Al would eagerly proclaim, “mark it on the ice until spring” and when asking Al for something he would jokingly retort with, “what do you think this is, Christmas?” before handing you the butter.
In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to your favourite charity.
No service by request of the family. Instead, please share your favourite memory of Al via the website: www.fostersgardenchapel.ca.
