Herb was a loving and supportive family man who cherished his time with his loved ones. He was known for his kind heart, gentle spirit, and unwavering faith. Herb will be deeply missed by his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Dee; two sons Vern (Wendy) Advocaat and Greg (Lori) Advocaat; and three precious grandchildren Tyler, Olivia, and Deanna.
Herb had a heart for truckers and founded a ministry called Truckers Friend Network which grew to become world-wide. Truckers and travelers can pick up Bibles free at truck stops and various places along the highways. Herb also loved good music; he enjoyed singing in and leading church choirs and congregational singing in the many different places we’ve lived in the U.S. and Canada. He was a happy personality - always saw the glass half full! He loved fun times with family and friends and we all will miss him dearly. When people would ask him, “How are you doing?” he would often say, “ Any better, I’d be in Heaven.”
Visitation will be held from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, October 20, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. In lieu of flowers, donations to Truckers Friend Network, 1175 76th St. SW, Byron Center, MI 49315 would be very much appreciated. The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guestbook online.
