Leroy Ervin Kopp, born January 7, 1940 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, left this world November 16, 2024 at the age of 84, leaving a legacy of love and devotion. He was a dedicated father and a cherished partner.
Preceded in death by his beloved wife of 47 years, Patricia Ann Kopp; parents Edward Kopp and Lillian Holliday Zobro; as well as stepfather, Edward Zobro; sister Sharon Roersma; and brother, Edward Kopp.
Lee's memory lives on in the hearts of those who loved him dearly. He is survived by his loving partner of 17 years, Susan Vlug; and four children Ron (Bonnie) Kopp, Linda (Steve) LeFebre, Russell (Betsy) Kopp, and Sherry (Todd) Dood. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Salak and Susan’s daughters Jane Kiliszewski and Sue (Keith) Rosendahl. Lee's heart swelled with pride for his 13 adored grandchildren Melanie (Paul) Reilly, Carrianne Kopp (Mike), Samantha LeFebre, Zachary LeFebre, Mitchell Kopp, Aleah Kopp Devries (Ben), Maddie Kopp, Olivia Howlett, Brandon (Alaina) Funke, Charla Greene (Robby), Brandon Smigiel, Jenni (James) Albright, and Holly (Jeff) Deppe. In addition, great-grandchildren Katelyn, Sean, and Rebecca Reilly; Allysa and Ethan Greene; Endyra, Greyson, Uzziah, and Finly Deppe; Allaura Albright brought him immense joy and happiness.
A proud graduate of Rogers High School in 1958, Lee's work ethic was unparalleled, with a remarkable 23 years of perfect attendance at Steelcase. His career at Walter Higgins, Kelvinator, and Steelcase was marked by dedication and diligence.
Lee's passion for classic cars was evident as he attended car shows with his prized 1957 turquoise Chevrolet 210, a nostalgic reminder of his youthful spirit. Known for his mechanical expertise, Lee was the go-to person for fixing cars and household tasks, always ready to lend a helping hand.
He found simple pleasures in watching Gunsmoke reruns and visiting Mr. Burger on Clyde Park and 44th Street for his daily treat of ice cream. His visits to Gilda’s Club, where he met Susan, were filled with compassion and camaraderie as he connected with others who had faced similar losses. He will be dearly missed and forever cherished in the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him.
A celebration of life service will be held 11 a.m. Monday, November 25, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan, with visitation from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. The family invites you to a luncheon after the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Faith Hospice or Gilda’s Club.
