Lawrence Potgeter

Lawrence David Potgeter, age 91, went to be with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, June 30, 2024, surrounded by his family at home. He was preceded in death by his stillborn son; parents David and Louise Potgeter; and brother, Roger Potgeter. Larry will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 66 years, Betty (Joyce) Potgeter (DeKraker); children Charlene Potgeter, Mark and Jodi Potgeter, David and Renee Potgeter; grandchildren Jennifer and John Hopkins, Shelby and Jon Conant, Dalton Potgeter, Joshua and Courtney Potgeter, Noah Potgeter, Zechariah Potgeter, Isaac Potgeter, Amber and Bruce VanderVennen, Kyle and Becky Potgeter, Kendra and Collin Broekhuis, Mackenzy and Rick Roosien, Madison and John Konyndyk, Savannah and Brandon Noorman; 25 great-grandchildren plus two more expected this year.

Larry served in the United States Army during the Korean War.

Larry will be lovingly remembered for being such a Godly man - he never wavered in his faith. He faithfully served many terms in both the deacon and elder offices in the churches of which he was a member. He was a loving and doting father and grandfather. His daily prayers for his children and grandchildren are forever remembered and appreciated. He volunteered for many years with Gideons International to make sure God’s Word was spread throughout the world. (Isaiah 55:11) His foresight in starting a wholesale business is still thriving in the family after 59 years.

Visitation will be held from 4-6:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 2, 2024 at Trinity United Reformed Church, 7350 Kalamazoo Avenue, Caledonia, Michigan. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, July 3, at the church, with visitation prior to the service beginning at 9:30 a.m. Rev. Jacob London will officiate. Interment will be at Winchester Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Gideons International or Trinity United Reformed Church – Missions.
