Larry Bruce White, age 83 of Byron Center, formerly of Vassar Michigan, passed away Saturday, February 17, 2024. Preceded in death by Glen (father) and Minnie (mother); June Irvine (sister); and Hubert (brother). Survived by beloved wife of 57 years, Jan White; revered brothers-in-law, Peter (Jerri) and Walton Richardson; loving children Todd (Laura), Laurel (Kevin), and Jason (Yujin) White. He was proud of his grandchildren Mason White, Ethan (Emma), Alaina, and Bak Wood, Elizabeth and William White. Larry is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Larry graduated from Michigan Tech in 1965 with a degree in metallurgical engineering, working for over 40 years as a quality control engineer. When Larry retired in 2005, he and Jan (with the expertise of his nephew, Tim Irvine) built their dream retirement home in Elk Rapids. They spent many years enjoying northern Michigan. Larry hobbies included golfing and photography - he loved framing pictures. He was a runner and ran two Detroit marathons; he ran multiple road races with his kids. Also, Larry and Jan enjoyed traveling the U.S. and Europe. Above all, Larry was a family man - dedicated to his wife, children, and grandchildren. He was our example of humble leadership, equality of all people, spontaneity, and family adventures.
A private memorial (immediate family) will be held in Byron Center. All friends and family will be invited to a celebration of life later this year. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org). The family welcomes memories and messages at www.cookcaresbyron.com in their guest book online.
