Surrounded by wife and sons, Joe Cwynar, age 57, passed away peacefully at home on September 28, 2024, after a six month battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born March 24, 1967 in Flint, MI to Robert F. Cwynar and Carol A. (Marcil) Cwynar. He graduated from Grand Blanc High School, class of 1985. He went on to attend the University of Michigan - Flint where he met and started dating Ami in 1987. Upon graduation, Joe and Ami were married October 6, 1990. They welcomed their son Adam in 1993 and Ryan in 1996.
Joe’s career started as a stocker at Perry Drugs in 1984 and upon college graduation was promoted to manager (Rite Aid). There he managed multiple stores before his career led him to working for Daymon Worldwide (Kmart) on to the Meijer account. Joe finished his career at Acosta Sales and Marketing, retiring in September, 2023.
Joe was an avid sports fan who knew his sports trivia and stats. He played basketball for Central United Methodist Church as a teenager and has golfed since he could swing a club. He loved golfing with his buddies. Joe’s favorite teams include MSU football/basketball, Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, and White Sox.
Surviving are spouse of 34 years, Ami; sons Adam Cwynar and Ryan Cwynar; father, Robert Cwynar; sister, Susan (Greg) Boyer; in-laws Larry and Nora Atkins; sister-in-law, Julie (Kevin) Smith; nieces Elizabeth (Justin) Weiss, Sarah Boyer, and Grace Boyer; nephew, Mark (Elizabeth) Boyer. Joe cherished his extended family and considered many of his friends to be family. He was preceded in death by mom, Carol Cwynar.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday, October 2, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home in Byron Center, 2067 84th St. SW, Byron Center, Michigan. A celebration of life gathering will be held 11 a.m. Thursday, October 3, 2024 at the funeral home, with visitation from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service. Reverend Weatherly VerHelst will officiate. Joe will be laid to rest at Pine Grove Cemetery in Oceana County near his family's favorite vacation place on Lake Michigan.
