James “Jim” Allan Smit passed away December 3, 2023. He was preceded in death by his father, Kenneth Smit and brother, Jerry Smit. He is survived by his mother, Mary Smit; brother, Jeffrey (Karri) Smit; children Anna (Jeffrey) Lamping, James (Amanda) Smit, and Lily Smit. Jim was also a grandfather to seven grandchildren.
Jim was born January 25, 1961 and lived nearly all of his life in Byron Center. He worked in the tool and die trade and later went on to own and operate his own plastics repelletizing business - something of which he was very proud. Jim was a devoted father and gave much of his life to serving his family and community. When not at work or with his family, Jim could be found out walking with his beloved dogs or enjoying a sunset at the lake.
A memorial gathering will be held to honor Jim’s life from 4-8 p.m. Friday, January 26, 2024 at Cook Funeral Home 2067 84th St., Byron Center, MI. There will be time to visit with family followed by an informal time of sharing for anyone who wishes to stay and share their memories of Jim.
