Wendell Gary Roberts was born on March 2, 1931 in Port Arthur, Texas to Wacie and Eunice Roberts. He spent most of his youth in Lufkin, Texas. He graduated in 1948 from Lufkin High School. He served 3 years in the U.S. Navy, after which he moved back to Lufkin where he went into the grocery business.
He had a love for boxing, where he competed in tournaments while in the Navy. He had a true passion for fishing and racing cars. He lived for the days he could ride his motorcycle, but his greatest joy and love of life was his kids and grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his mother Eunice Roberts, father Wacie Roberts, and his brother Leslie Conrad.
He is survived by his daughter Charlotte Roberts Boles and husband Mike Boles, granddaughter Wendy Mills and husband David Mills, great grandchildren Kailee Mills and Logan Mills and granddaughter Briana McCulloch and husband Tyler McCulloch. Son Gary Roberts and wife Linda of Bertram, Texas. Grandson Steven Roberts and wife Nikki and great grandsons Caden and Tanner Roberts all of Tyler, Texas. Granddaughter Abby Hilliard and great grandson Kingston Hilliard of Van, Texas. One sister and husband Wacine and Warren Whatley of Hot Springs Village, Arkansas. Numerous nieces and nephews and cousins.
Memorial services will be on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Clements-Wilcox Chapel in Burnet, Texas. Condolences may be made at www.clementswilcoxburnet.com.
