Mike grew up in Sweeny, Texas where he met his wife of 51 years, Linda Stedman. After High School he volunteered to serve his country by joining the Navy serving on combat deployments to Vietnam.
After returning home, Mike’s calling to service eventually led to a life-long law enforcement career. Mike’s drive to serve the community in any way led him to also certify as an EMT and later help establish the Burnet County Dive Team where he received an international rescue award.
Mike served as an Investigator with the Fort Bend County Sheriff’s Department and a Patrol Officer with the Humble Police Department. Later he served as a Captain with the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department. After a time serving the LCRA Ranger Department as Sergeant he returned to the Burnet County Sheriff’s Department where he served as Chief Deputy.
Mike was preceded in death by his mother and father, Dorothy Jean and Tot Minshew. He is survived by his wife, Linda Stedman of Granite Shoals, formerly of Burnet, son Mike Stedman of Salt Lake City, daughter and son-in-law, Angela and Jesse Canchola of Granite Shoals. Grandchildren surviving are Caitlyn Stedman, Adrian Canchola, Mariah Canchola, and Olivia Canchola. Mike also grew up with a big family of four sisters, three brothers, and a crapton of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
The Memorial Service with a Masonic Burial Service and Military Honors for Mike will be held at 2:00PM Saturday, August 24 in the Chapel at Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet.
