Leona was born in Burnet, Texas on January 8, 1932 to Wesley and Maudie McDaniel. She was preceded in death by her parents, first husband Denver Baker and her second husband of 33 years Elven McDaniel, and her siblings Aubrey Samford, Stanton Samford, Carmen (Babe) Samford, and her son Leon Rowdy McDaniel. She is survived by her children, daughters Priscilla Serles, Rebecca Sadler, and LuCinda Bachman and husband Doug. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Melanie Sadler and husband Eric Johnson, Thomas Holland and wife Shannon, Christopher Serles, and Courtney Wallace; six great-grandchildren Haylee Serles, Brynn Holland, Danica Serles, Cole Johnson, Cayson Carrillo, Emily Serles, and many beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Leona and Elven resided in Burnet where they raised their children. She was employed by Bertram Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center for twenty plus years. Leona had a passion for gardening, plants, and was a bird lover. She also baked the BEST pies on holidays and birthdays. Leona was an avid collector of Santa Claus items including figurines, ornaments, postcards, and kitchen accessories. She was a huge fan of Elvis Presley which she shared the same birthday of January 8th with Elvis.
Leona was a product of her generation, morally a strong person with common sense smarts, and at times naïve and gullible (which always led to laughter). She could be strict but was devoted to her family, who valued family ties and considered her loved ones an important part of her identity and purpose in life. Her favorite moments were sitting on her spacious front porch with family and a large glass of sweet tea.
The family would like to thank the staff of Granite Mesa Health Center – Nursing Home in Marble Falls for their exceptional care.
We will miss you Mom, Grandma, Leona
God Bless and Rest in Peace, we love you!
