Lenna, 92, passed away on March 2, 2020, in Austin, Texas. She was born in Georgetown, TX, to Amzy Alton and Hattie Piper Hahn on September 16, 1927. Lenna grew up on a farm close to Burnet, TX with three sisters. She graduated from UT Austin where she enjoyed square dancing and met her husband of 71 years, Edgar H. B. Chew.
Lenna and Ed were married May 28, 1948, at the end of college, and moved to El Paso to take care of Ed’s family and the family business. While in El Paso, Lenna was a school teacher until their three children were born. They remained there until 1967 when a job moved them back to Austin.
Lenna enjoyed traveling all her life. There were family vacations to New York, Colorado, Yellowstone, and many more State and National Parks. She enjoyed chaperoning the Westlake band and choir trips abroad. Starting in the 90s, Lenna and Ed traveled on Elderhostel trips to New Zealand, Puerto Rico, Greece, Rome, Sweden, Panama and many places in the U.S.
Surviving her are her husband, three children: Edgar and Valerie Chew, Nancy and Rick Perkins, and John and Sally Chew; seven grandchildren: Cale and Mike Nonemacher, Robin and Chad Loeffler, Tucker Chew, Ross and Jen Perkins, Ben and Sheena Perkins, Jane Chew and Sam Chew, and eight great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at Bethel Cemetery, Burnet, Texas on Saturday, March 7, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. Following the service will be a visitation with family and friends at the Bethel Community Center, Burnet, TX.
Lenna requested “happy” clothes – colorful shirts, no suits or ties, for attendees.
