Gary Dean Willard, 62, passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012, at his home in Buchanan Dam. Gary was born March 18, 1950, in Cape Girardeau, Missouri to Charles W. “Red” Willard and Helen M. (McCormick) Willard. He spent his childhood growing up in many places because of his fathers work in the construction business. He served in the 101st Airborne Division in Vietnam from 1967 to 1970 and an additional tour in Germany from 1972 to 1975. In addition to various other medals and decorations, Gary was a recipient of the Purple Heart, Bronze Star, Air Medal, and Army Commendation Medal. He was a former resident of Catalina, Arizona before moving to Buchanan Dam in 1984. He was employed at the Inks Lake National Fish Hatchery in the maintenance department and retired this past March after twenty years of employment. He enjoyed fishing, camping, and being with his grandchildren.
Gary is survived by his wife Kelly, sons Kevin Willard and wife Theresa, Jon Willard and wife Stacie; daughters Shana Inman Willard, Katie Willard, and Malissa Willard. Also surviving are brothers Danny Willard and wife Karol, David Willard and wife Annette, sister Donna Willard Clough and husband Randy; grandchildren Kristun Willard, Blake Willard, Kaitlyn Willard, Zachary Willard, Casey Willard, Rylie Inman, and Sophia Passmore, and great grandchild Jaydun Estrada. Gary was preceded in death by his parents.
Visitation will be held from 5-7 P.M. Friday, December 14th at the Clements-Wilcox Funeral Home in Burnet. Graveside services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. Saturday, December 15th at Lakeland Hills Memorial Park by Reverend John Taylor. Military honors will follow. Condolences may be offered to www.clementswilicoxburnet.com.
