Ann Davis

Annie Laura Amthor Davis, age 93, slipped peacefully from this life on Friday, February 10, 2012 in Marble Falls, Texas. Ann was the daughter of George Marcus Amthor and Clara Kelly Amthor and was born August 14, 1918 in San Saba, Texas. She spent her youth on the A.H.Kelly Ranch with her grandmother Laura Harrison Kelly and her aunt, Minnie Kelly. Ann graduated from San Saba High School and matriculated to Texas Women's University from which she graduated in 1940 with a degree in English. She became a teacher and met her future husband in Ferris, Texas. On Valentines Day, February 14, 1946, she and Billy Harlan Davis were married in the United Methodist Church in San Saba.

Following their wedding, Ann and Bill moved to College Station while Bill completed his education at Texas A&M University. Upon graduation, they moved to Houston, Texas for Bills employer, Gulf Oil Corp. His career led them to Odessa, Texas in 1962 and eventual retirement at Inks Lake, Burnet, Texas in 1979.

Ann was an active member of the United Methodist Women's Association, Bluebonnet Garden Club and the Red Hat Society. She was also a member of the Odessa Garden Club, the Pink Ladies Hospital Volunteers and was a Daughter of the American Revolution. She was proud of her early Texas family, including the famed Texas Ranger, William "Big Foot" Wallace and the Amthor family from Cat Springs, Texas. Ann enjoyed growing roses, hydrangeas, iris and African violets. She was a gifted oil painter and enjoyed a good day of bridge. Ann always loved wearing her high heels, hats and gloves. She loved her children, her pride and joy.

Ann was predeceased by her husband, Billy H. Davis and by her brothers, George Marcus Amthor, II and William Kelly Amthor of San Saba, Texas. She is survived by her son, Jerome Kelly Davis and his wife, Rosanne of Horseshoe Bay, Texas and by her daughter, Jill Davis Wooten and her husband, W. Harris Wooten of Houston, Texas. She also leaves her grandchildren Kelly Davis Aldridge and her husband Jay; Whitney Wooten Hinton and her husband, James Hinton, Jr; and William Bryan Wooten. She is also mourned by her great-grandchildren Brendan Cockroft, Bailie Tomlinson, Breannon Tomlinson and Leighton Hinton.

Other survivors include her sister-in-law, Shirley Campbell Amthor and numerous loving Amthor nieces and nephews, all of San Saba. She leaves her devoted friend Lucille Flores and her extended family, Ashley Wood, Gregory Wood, Natalie and Mark Bier and their sons, Everett and Garrett. The family would like to extend particular thanks for the loving care she received from Lucille Flores and also to Lynn and Betty Faught of San Saba for their care of the A. H. Kelly Ranch. The family also gives special thanks for the kindness, care and the delicious bacon from the staff at Gateway Gardens in Marble Falls; Betty, Mary, Laura, Jennifer, Kellie, Maria A, Annette, Judy, Clemeneta, Christina, Diana, Kim, Maria G, Mickie, Sylvia, Sara, Kim and the talented kitchen staff. The family is grateful for the care shown by The Seton Burnet Hospice, Dr. David Greenwell and Dr. Glenn Preston.

Per Ann's stated wishes, there will be graveside services officiated by Marcus Dale Amthor and Grady Roe, pastor of the Highland Lakes Methodist Church, at the San Saba Cemetery, Hwy 16 North, San Saba, Texas on Tuesday, February 14, at 11 AM. Visitation will be Monday, February 13, from 5 until 7 PM. at Clements-Wilcox Burnet, 306 East Polk Street, Burnet Texas. 78611, providers of all arrangements. Honorary pallbearers will be George Marcus Amthor, III; Marcus Dale Amthor; William Wooten; Brendan Cockcroft, James Hinton and Jay Aldridge.
