She is survived by her 104 year old husband (Loo Yuen Wun), her 2 children: Julia (Hon) and Desmond (Emma), her son-in-law (Jerome), 8 grand children, and 14 great grand children. She is predeceased by her daughter (Joyce).
Chan Lau was born on January 8, 1924 in the village of Wunggong, Hoiping, Guangdong Province, China. She married Loo Yuen Wun from a neighbouring village in 1945.
In her long life, she has lived in four countries; China (27 years), Hong Kong (5 years), Fiji Islands (13 years) and Canada (54 years).
Her lasting legacy was that courageous decision for her family to emigrate to Canada in 1972. At that time, she and her husband were already in their 50’s and have very little knowledge of the English language. Their children and future generations will forever be grateful for their courage and sacrifice in the pursuit of a better life for their family.
Her simple lifestyle, staying constantly active, exercising regularly and consuming fresh vegetables daily must have been the key secrets to her and her husband’s longevity.
We sadly mourn her passing, but find solace in the fact that she lived a long, active and healthy life surrounded and supported by her loved ones.
She will be missed but keenly remembered for her selflessness, impeccable memory, endless energy and inner drive, fighting spirit and her ability to rebound quickly from setbacks.
We all gratefully thank her for all that she has done for us, we love her and we will miss her.
She will be buried at Ocean View Cemetery according to her final wishes on February 11, 2023.
