Thank you, Uncle Winston, for providing light and humour during my earliest track & field days. You made a sport that I resisted as a child, ultimately become one that I have grown to love. Your kindness was a gift to all, and you are so very missed. Jamila, I'm holding you in my heart, and wish you, and all of your family more peace and ease as the days pass on.

Rest In Peace Winston.  I feel so grateful to have known Winston all these years.  He was a kind, caring and humble man.  He was a great father and husband and a very loyal friend.  He was always so patient with the kids at track practices and at the meets when he coached  for the past Burnaby Striders.  We have fond memories when our kids were in  Burnaby Striders.   Winston  will be greatly missed.

Winston was a strong and bold man of 40 years of age when I met him. He loved his family; he was devoted to my aunt Evadne . I admired his devotion to his children- he was their rock. Otis being the only boy was his heartbeat- he loved and affirmed Otis. I believe that he demonstrated to Otis how to love and care for his family as a man. May God continue to comfort his daughters , son and my aunt Evadne

I feel so grateful to have had Winston in our lives for so many years. He was one of a kind. We met him when my son was in Grade 8 .  Winston was a tireless and passionate advocate for Track and Field and for all the kids he took under his wing. We have so many great memories of Burnaby Striders, nights at Burnaby Central, weekend track meets , road trips, laughs and stories along the way.  Winston insisted on me implementing Jamaican food into Keynan's diet and taught me how to make jerk chicken and plantains. During those years, I learned all about the Jamaican track teams because Winston knew everything about every track athlete in Jamaica!                                                                              I will always appreciate the little things Winston did and said off the track.  After practice, he often gave Keynan  “pointers”  such as telling him to help his mum with chores and wash my car if it was dirty and it always worked ! 😊 Winston was loved by my whole family. I never saw Winston without him asking me how my dad or sister were doing .  He took a genuine interest in everyone and really cared about other people.                                                                    The last time I spoke to Winston, he talked about his grandchildren and what a joy they were.  Thank you to Evadne, kids and family for sharing Winston with us. Lifting you all up in prayer in the days to come. I know this is an immeasurable loss and I hope you feel some comfort knowing how cherished Winston was . ❤

Winston was such a great coach and an even better person. He had a big and lasting impact on the lives of so many kids, especially mine. I was terribly sad to hear of his passing and he will be truly missed. Love you Winston. 


I have known Winston for over 15 years, a true gentleman ,dedicated  coach for track and field and a deeply religious person.
He was a family man, humble,so very simple and down to earth .He loved to cook and Evadne much appreciated.God bless Evadne and her family, will miss you Winston .

Winston's departure creates an unfillable void for both family and dear friends. His passionate love for Sports in general and Track & Field in particular, is only surpassed by his abiding love for his dear  family and the Land of his Birth. Our lengthy and enticing phone conversations during major T&F events, (with his inimitable nasal timbre), will be most sadly missed!

Uncle Winston, I’m so saddened by your death but I know you’re no longer in pain and you’re an angel now watching over your family.  Your kindness, and love that you’ve shared with me will always be etched in my heart. Family was very important to you and I will miss those phone calls where you would check on me and my family.  Even though you were very sick and I called to check on you, the first thing you asked about was my well being and that of my family.  I will also never forget the moments we share in the Gardens during my last visit to Vancouver. I honor the man of God you were, always sharing a scripture or two with me.

A true legend! I have so many fond memories of the 10+ years with Winston, the ups and downs, laughs and cries to him always trying to take my meat out my sandwiches and more. Not only was he the best track coach I had ever had who introduced me to the sport but he was a mentor. He never gave up on me and pushed me to be the best I could be and I wouldn’t have been able to accomplish all that I did in my track career without him. I know I gave him a hard time and wasn’t always the easiest athlete to coach but he put with me. On many occasions Winston would drive me to meets and today I am thankful for the little moments and cherish those rides and our conversations deeply as I got to learn more about the man beyond the sport. Thank you for always being there, from the start to finish, rain or shine. Gone but never forgotten, RIP ❤️

Winston and I worked at The Post & Telegraph Department during The seventies. Our responsibilities  involved visiting these offices to maintain The radio and Telegraph equipment. Hé was an engineer who has a proffesional attititude to work and I learned from his knowledge that hé unselfishly shared. When hé and family migrated to Canada I pledged to continue The friendship that we had. The last time I saw him was on my Vancouver vacation in 2016.  I am left with a lasting impression of a life well lived. My sincearest condoleces to his wife and family.


I only knew Winston through his coaching at Striders, where he was always happy to see us and loved to chat.  My favorite memory is of him doing his push-ups with the kids at cool-down every night.  Winston was a true gentlemen and will be missed.

Last week,  we lost a very dear friend. Winston was a very kind and loving person; a quiet man who had a smile for everyone. He always called to check on us to see  how we were doing. He never failed to enquire about our children and grandchildren. We had long talks about life, and everything else.
Winston loved his family, his Lord, and track and field. He coached his athletes with passion, always encouraging them to do their best, whatever that best was.
During the Olympic Games, and other major track events, we would work out the schedule and the time difference for the country in which it was being held, so that we would not miss any of the events. Later, we would discuss the athletes
 and their performances. He was always proud of the achievements of the athletes from the country of his birth, as well as the Canadian athletes. 
We send our sympathy to the love of his life, his dear wife Evadne, as well as his children, his precious grandchildren, and his extended family.
Winston is now safe in the arms of his Lord, whom he served well.

I have known Winston since we were students at Rusea's High School.  He was a kind and supportive friend and excelled at Track and Field, and an
outstanding member of the Soccer team.   Later on we went to London,
England, to pursue further studies where we met again and throughout our struggles Winston remained a
loyal friend until his passing.

He was a devoted husband and father,
and very proud of his children and grandchildren and their achievements. 

Evadnie and her family should take comfort from the wonderful experiences they shared to get through this difficult time.

How fortunate we were to receive Winston's welcome every week at church.  This welcome, that he extended to everyone coming through the doorway,  was his faith -- his reflecting God's love and acceptance of us all.    If one of us arrived on our own, he would be quick to ask "Where's Rick"?   This was a lovely validation of the value of our presence -- like the shepherd keeping track of his sheep!

Uncle Winston was known as a loving big brother to our father and caring brother in law to our mother.

He always made the effort to communicate with our family in Trinidad after reconnecting  in Jamaica. This reminded us the importance of family despite distance.

Winston has been a foundation of Burnaby Striders for decades and has built countless friendships with athletes, coaches, parents, and many others in the track & field community. He has established for himself an unwavering reputation and has garnered respect from many who know him. Winston’s main focus was always about the athletes and helping them be the best they can be. We will sorely miss Winston’s presence at Burnaby Striders but would like to take this opportunity to honour him and thank him and his family for the dedication and commitment he’s given to all of us. Winston, on behalf of your Burnaby Striders family, we thank you for everything! We love you, and may you rest in peace!

I first met Winston in 1988 when my son joined Burnaby Striders.
For several years we worked together organizing and hosting NEWS meets and BCJD Pentathlons.  He was the zone 4  athletics coach for the BC Summer Games for over 10 years and in 1997 he was the Athletics Sport Chairperson when they were held in Burnaby.
He was a kind, quiet man who gave freely of his time to coach many outstanding athletes.Winston was respected in the Athletics community and always a true gentleman.

My condolences to Winston's family and his Church family. His kind and dignified presence was quietly and profoundly uplifting. I enjoyed spending time with him when I attended Brentwood. I took this photo after lunch and shows him in his element. He will be missed.   

Winston was a lovely and kind person that we were glad to know through church and became friends with. He always came to church and greeted everyone who came in with a bright smile, whether they were a member or a guest. Every Sunday, without fail, he would take his time to talk to everyone and check in to see how they were doing. We remember how before he left church, he would always say to us "all the best". We know that he is now resting in the bosom of our Lord but we will truly miss him. May his soul rest in perfect peace. And Winston, as you always used to say, all the best.

This will always be one of my fondest memories of Winston - at Bible study on a Friday night at Brentwood Presbyterian Church.  In the picture are long-time friends, Dorothy Sung and Pam Wong.  His love for Jesus Christ (he always insisted on the full name) and his devotion to understanding and applying the Bible's witness to him will remain an inspiration to me all my life.  The other picture of Winston that will remain is greeting people as they entered church on Sunday - warmly, humbly, and helpfully.  What a privilege to have known him and worked with him.  His generous love has touched many.

Sad news he was a great man .Kind passionate and full of integrity. I have a great memory spending a week at York University near Toronto as roommates. He laughed and shook his head constantly I was a but of a wild one in those days .

Winston will always be in our hearts.

We never got to see each other as much as I would have liked but whenever we did, our interactions were very impactful. We shared a strong passion for track and field and exchanged opinions from time to time. You were also very encouraging and supportive during my athletic tenure. The last conversion we had, you said you hope i'd get married one day, I did.....
but unfortunately you wont get to meet her, along with my new daughter, such is life. I know you are looking down from heaven with that contagious smile of yours. We do not have enough words to express our grief for the family at this very sad time.  Please know that our thoughts and prayers are with you all.    Winston was a prefect during my years at Ruseas High School.He was  very quiet, studious and passionate about being a Rusean and his Jamaican culture.
