Thomas Christopher Oates

It is with great sadness we announce Tom's passing after a brave battle with cancer. Tom was born in Saskatchewan to an RCMP family. The family moved to Ottawa then Winnipeg before settling in Headingley, MB. Tom and his brothers, Sandy, Chuck and Tim were all born less than 2 years apart from 1954 to 1959. They were a close group of brothers growing up, all were involved in motorcycling and motorcycle racing. Life eventually brought Tom back to BC and he formed his own company and became self-employed as a journeyman carpenter. Tom was most proud of his son Jeremy, and his 31 years of being clean and active in his program. He was active in Jeremy's life through sports. Tom and Jeremy shared a love of hockey. Tom is survived by his son, Jeremy, his brothers Sandy (Brenda), Tim, Chuck (Debbie), niece Stacey, nephew Christopher along with other extended members and many loving friends. He is predeceased by parents David and Isla. It is with a heavy heart we see him leave us. Thanks to gofundme for helping extend Toms life and to the staff at Royal Columbian Hospital and Burnaby General. A celebration of life will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home on Sunday, March 5, 2017 at 1:00 pm.
