May (Soake May) Wong passed away peacefully on November 23, 2021 at the age of 92 while a resident of the New Vista Care Home. Predeceased by her husband, Allen, in 2009, she is survived by her sister, Elsie, and by her children; Sherry, Dianne (David), Russell (Donna) and Marty. She also leaves behind six grandchildren: Zachary (Angela), Ashley, Curtis (Carol), Katherine (Sam), Chelsea (Dean) and Audrey (Robert) and nine great grandchildren.
Born in Vancouver, May attended Tecumseh Elementary and graduated from John Oliver Secondary at the age of 15. With a bright and curious mind, she continued a lifetime of learning, travelling many times to China where she learned Mandarin and the art of Chinese painting. Aside from being an excellent baker, she was extremely creative with her hands and could whip up a dress or knit a Cowichan sweater in no time, often generously gifting the finished product. She worked hard in the family grocery stores alongside Allen to provide the family with the comforts of life.
The family would like to express their gratitude to the staff at New Vista who cared affectionately for May for almost 20 years. A private family graveside service for May will be held in the near future. In memory of May, we ask that you please consider a donation to the Alzheimers Society of B.C.
Rest in peace, Mom
