I miss you. Writing, blogging, even dreaming doesn’t feel the same when I can’t share it with you. So much has happened since you left and I recount it all when you cross my mind. I miss you so much, Melissa.

I had known Melissa through  the gym she worked at.

She was full of smiles, laughter and a very good young person.

It breaks my heart to see her gone .

I cannot process the loss and the grief the parents are going through.

She will always be remembered and appreciated for her personality and the smiles she had.

I stand in solidarity with the parents.

May god bless Melissa and  the family in this tough times.

A talented, passionate and very kind woman who would have made the world better. Although we knew each other for years, we weren't very close. But one thing I remember is that she still tried to make it to my birthday celebration despite us not knowing each other that well, and treating me to lunch when she couldn't. Melissa was a kind soul. Deepest condolences to the Teo family. 

A special beautiful friend,  bright, kind hearted, intelligent young lady who I always love. 

I am really heartbroken and heartached when I learned the news that I have lost a dearest friend  in my life. 

You were such a joyful spirit that touched everyone who knew you. We feel truly lucky to have been able to know you and will miss you dearly.

I will cherish the memories that we had been together.

We will always remember that special smile, that caring heart and that warm embrace you always gave us. Of all the gifts in life, to have you as our daughter was the greatest gift of all. 

The moment you’ve left us forever, our hearts were torn in two. One side filled with heartache and the other died with you. 

Remembering you is easy, we do it everyday but missing you is a heartache that never goes away. There will never be another one to replace you in our hearts. 

We will hold you tightly within our hearts, there you will remain and the love we will always have for you.

I learned about this tragedy the day after it happened from a post on Sophie's FB page from a friend named Tammy. It was about 10pm. I remember saying to myself "WHAT!?" I still cannot believe this happened to such as sweet, nice girl like Melissa Teo. I gotta tell you I wonder every day at work: "Why not one of these repeat offenders? Why her?" There is no why. Sometimes there is just no reason.

I met Melissa's father Kirby in about 1997 and I met Melissa (and Sophie) for the first time around 1998 when she was just a wee little grub, born in 1996 and all. I saw her grow up and become a big sister to Melvyn. What a lovely young lady she had become. Kirby got some tattoos and then she wanted to be just like her daddy and she got some tattoos too.  My friend told me that she was working at Melissa's school and had heard from other teachers that Melissa had a lot of promise as a teacher.  It is too bad that her trip to China got cancelled last minute that would have been nice for her to go. One time when we had the Teos over Melissa said to me "You guys have the best snacks!". It was so cute. My condolences also to her boyfriend of 3 years Nicholas. 

I always looked up to Melissa as a role model -- she was enthusiastic, bright and diligent. I was so happy to see you attaining your dream career step by step; such a great talent gone too soon. I still need some time to swallow this hard truth, and I wish I saw you more before I left Vancouver. Thank you for being an inspiration to many. We will miss you a lot! <3 

A beautiful sweet gal. You will always dearly remembered. I am lost of words to hear this sad news. 

I’m heartbroken for the loss of bright, beautiful young woman. Melissa had so much more to share with the world. My condolences to Kirby, Sophie, Melvyn and Nicholas. I’m saddened that you are on this grief journey. I pray that you will find  strength from each other and those who love and support you. 

While I only knew Melissa for a short while, she was a highlight on my path during my time at UBC. My first friend, she challenged my philosophies and pedagogies before we even hit campus that first day. She always had me thinking deeper, more critical. And I will always thank her for that. She was a wonderful person, and I will greatly miss her presence in my life. Rest easy, dear friend. ❤️

Dear Melissa

You are a little girl with great compassion. We will always remember you. We wish that your new will be filled with love and blessing.

Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure. 

Didn’t know that your visit on 10/07/17 to our home was the 1st & last😔.  Though it was only a short visit & only came to know you on that special day, it seemed that my family and I knew you for ages. You are a sweet, beautiful, friendly & kind hearted person to know. We missed all that.  We pray that your soul shall Rest In Peace. 



Just heartbroken. Melissa had the most genuine and kind heart, was charismatic and goofy, and the most intelligent, brilliant and thought provoking female you could ever meet at any age. Even from a young age, I remember her questioning bigger pictures and rationales with regard to culture, history and standing up for what is right. She grew to love and truly adore her own culture and was passionate about inspiring others to do the same. She empowered people to make positive changes in their lives and believed in fighting for human rights. Melissa had the most loving and hardworking family whom she loved and respected to no end. My heart is breaking knowing she is gone but even more so thinking of my Auntie Sophie, Uncle Kirby and cousin Melvyn.  Melissa, you were such a special person and touched the hearts of countless people with your one of a kind personality. One of my best memories of you is hanging out in your basement while Melyvn played the guitar and my brothers and I watched your beautiful voice sing the most sweet song. I also learned to love my heritage through you, you inspired me to want to understand why our families continued to practice our culture and now to this day, I celebrate my culture to its fullest, thanking you for the inspiration. Your memory will live on through your teachings and experiences you shared with others and though it's beyond a shame that we lost you, I'm grateful for the memories and beliefs you instilled into us all.  No words can express how n why you are taken away from us so soon...if we could change that day you would still be with us instead and we would still see you thrive. 
Your loving spirit will continue to inspire endlessly...we are so proud of your accomplishments and what heights you could have soars to had your life not cut short suddenly. We love you and forever a void in our lives! Popo n Kong Kong is with you now in heaven.!

Melissa you will be missed. You brought joy to everyone who met you. Love you and will always remember the great times we all always had. 

Her smile radiates her warmth. I’m so sorry for your losses but please have comfort knowing that she has left behind her footprints in everyone’s heart. 

There is nothing one can be say to take away the pain of losing a child. I  know that she was loved and loved you all deeply. I am so thankful I had the privilege of knowing her. Her spirit, smile and soul will live on in your memories forever. She was and always will be your little girl and now she is your forever guardian angel.
