and friend to many, Mario Bavaro on January 25, 2023.
Born in Montefredane, Avellino, Italy, in 1935, Mario immigrated to Canada in 1953. He
worked many jobs before settling at AJ Forsythe for over 35 years to always provide for his
family. He was always known to be the one to plan summer picnics, bus trips, bocce games
and big family gatherings. Mario’s kindness and generosity ran deep throughout his life. He
was dedicated to his Catholic faith, and had strong ties to his church. Mario’s quick wit and
sense of humour was loved by all who knew him. To know him was to know he was a huge
hockey fan, a legendary bocce and card player, BBQ master and a lover of a good plate of
pasta.
Mario spent 64 years devoted to his loving wife Gilda. Their love blossomed into a family of 3
sons, and eventually 5 grandchildren. Mario’s life was defined by his commitment to his
family, and his love will always be cherished by those who love him.
Mario is survived by his wife Gilda, sons Peter (Rosa), Leo (Samantha) and Dennis (Mirella),
grandchildren Luca, Cassandra (Colton), Daniella (Bendix), Vanessa and Matthew, sister
Antonietta Gaita and brother Neil Bavaro, sister-in-law, brother-in-law and many nieces and
nephews. He is preceded by his parents Pellegrino and Autillia Bavaro, sisters Ida Dente
and Virginia Freda, and daughter-in-law Angela Bavaro.
The family would like to extend their gratitude to the Milano ward at Villa Carital for making
his time there comfortable.
Visitation will be offered from 6:30-8:00pm on Wednesday, February 1, 2023 at Bell Burnaby Funeral Chapel, 4276 Hastings Street, Burnaby.
