Maria (Rose) Simone

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Maria (known to all as Rose) Simone, who died on April 25, 2023 at the age of 71, after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. She is predeceased by her parents, Antonio and Anna Simone.

She sadly will be missed by her brothers John and Danny (Nina); nieces and nephews Alissa (Phil), Anthony (Brook), Nicole, and Michael; grand nieces and nephews Henry, Eli, and Willa; and honorary nieces and nephews Bridgette, Olivia, Kane, Gabrielle, and Nicah.

Born on April 1, 1952 in Bisceglie, Bari, Italy, she and her parents settled in East Vancouver in 1953. She graduated from Templeton Secondary in 1970 and followed her passion for adventure and travelled to anywhere there was a beach and good food. Rose will always be remembered as a kind, thoughtful, and loving woman who was always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. Her warm smile shined through her eyes and she was quick to laugh and greeted people with a hug. Professionally, she was a dedicated employee of the GVRD for 28 years where she worked as a senior buyer. After retiring, she enjoyed spending time in her apartment garden, going to the movies, volunteering with seniors, and long walks with her friends.

Her family takes comfort in knowing that Rose lived a meaningful life leaving behind a legacy of kindness and compassion. She will be deeply missed and always remembered.

A special thank you to the wonderful and caring staff at St. Michael’s Hospice who brought Rose comfort in the final weeks of her illness.

A funeral service for Rose will be held Monday, May 8, 2023 from 11:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Holy Cross Parish, 1450 Delta Avenue, Burnaby, BC V5B 3G2.
