Maria Motta

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother Maria Motta (ne Novelletto) on Friday November 8th, 2024. She was born on September 13, 1935 in Bassano Del Grappa, Italy. She immigrated to Canada in 1956.

She will be forever missed by her children: Luciana (Mike); Carla (Wayne); Antonia (Michael); and Cathy (Darryl) and grandchildren: Tina (Darren); Tom (Jessica); Stacey (Shale); Derek (Chantay); Jorge; Douglas; Cristina (Joe); and Silvia. Great grandchildren: Jordyn, Lily, Remi, Sloan and Raegan. Her sister Elisa (Giorgio) and many nieces and nephews.

Maria was predeceased by her husband Silvano in 1995.

Maria will be remembered for her love of family and friends and her delicious baking of cookies and sweets and her cooking of many meals for family and large gatherings. Maria was a successful businesswoman owning and managing her own grocery store and deli. Upon retirement she helped with caregiving of her grandchildren and spent endless hours volunteering in the kitchens of several Lower Mainland Neighbourhood Houses where she also helped with fundraising. Maria was honored with many volunteer appreciation awards over the years, the most special being the City of Burnaby Local Hero award presented by the Mayor in 2012.

A funeral service will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home Chapel at 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, BC. Saturday November 23rd 2024 at 4pm. Refreshments to follow.

In lieu of flowers, the family has set up a Maria Motta Legacy fund that will support local seniors programs.
