Maria Ermelinda, our mother, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 years on February 13th, 2022.
Born in Ponta Delgada, Sao Miguel (Azores) Portugal, to Manuel Candido Ferreira and Herminia Da Ascendao Marques on September 9th, 1934. She was the third child of four sisters. At the age of 21, she married Manuel Cordeiro. In 1956 their son, Daniel, was born. In February 1961, Maria Ermelinda and son Daniel immigrated to Canada to join with her husband Manuel in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1963 they welcomed their loving daughter, Susana. A few years later they settled in Vancouver.
Survived by her children, son; Daniel and daughter; Susana, daughter in law; Lori, son in law; Roberto. Grandchildren, Brandy, Marcus, Christopher, Matthew, Chantel, and Kelly (husband of Brandy). Sisters, Alzira and Hermina, and pre-deceased by sister Geraldina.
She loved cooking, planting flowers, working in her garden, raising her grandchildren, playing with her granddog Nikko, and the color pink.
Mother’s beautiful voice and laughter is no longer heard, but wonderful memories remain for all she has touched. She was the centre of our world and though she will be missed tremendously, she will always be remembered and cherished.
A special hug to sister in laws, Maria Eulalia and Maria Donaria, for the support of our mother.
A Mass will be held on Thursday March 3rd at St. Helen’s Parish, Burnaby, BC, at 11:00am, with a viewing prior at 10:30am. A Christian Burial will take place at Forest Lawn Memorial Park at 1pm.
