Lai Kuen Lee (Grace) passed away peacefully at home with her family at her side. She had survived breast cancer in 1989 and since 2016 had to endure difficulties coping with the repercussions from tongue cancer.
Survived by sons, Allan (Anna), Dale, and daughters, Cindy (Tim), Lily (Adrian); brothers Jerry (Marianne), Tim and sisters Betty, Fay and many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by her husband Gum Boon Lee.
Lai was born in Zhongshan, China on August 30, 1933. She immigrated to Canada in March 13, 1957 and married on April 2, 1957. Settling in New Westminster, Lai with her husband, owned and operated “Harry’s Grocery” from 1955 to 1989. During this period, she adapted to western culture, learning English, raising four children and operating a successful business. One of her enjoyments while working in the store was using her talent to create beautiful floral displays. She was a natural cook and enjoyed making wonderful meals for the family. She enjoyed dining out experiencing different cuisines. She loved travelling, cruising and experienced many destinations throughout Asia, Europe, North & Central, and South America.
Family described Lai as clever, hardworking, curious, generous and had a good sense of humor. Family was very important and a great source of joy to her.
She will be deeply missed.
A private family service was held at Ocean View Funeral Home.
