Jozef Ovsenek

Joe Ovsenek passed away on the morning of February 16th, 2020 due to complications of mesothelioma. Born in Trzic, Slovenia in 1932, he came to Canada in 1949, speaking no English, and having never had sugar. Upon dying, he spoke great English and ate nothing but sugar. After working across Canada, he ended up in Vancouver and met Marina at the Moosehall, where they both loved to dance. They were married and had four children: Marina, Joseph, Stephanie, and Michael. He had a great sense of humour, a twinkle in his eyes, and a camp story to tell. He loved old cars, old radios, a garage sale, but his family most of all. He is predeceased by his wife Marina, and is survived by all of his children, his sister Vera, his eight grandchildren and his extended family, all of whom miss him terribly. We wish he were still with us, but since he can't be, we're glad we have all the wonderful memories. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 140, Sechelt, BC would be appreciated. Prayers will be held on March 6, 2020 at 8 pm, with the Funeral Mass to be held on March 7, 2020 at 11 am, at Saint Francis of Assisi, 2025 Napier Street, Vancouver.
