Joe passed away at Burnaby Hospital at age 91. He was a kind, friendly, caring , generous person with a gentle soul and will be deeply missed by his sons Steve, David (Debra), Alan (Susy) and grandsons Branden and Ryan as well as many relatives and friends. Joe was predeceased by his wife Betty and son Gary. Since Joe and Betty’s marriage in 1955, they settled in Burnaby where Joe operated two businesses. Most notable was the 67 Shop which he owned and operated for almost 25 years in North Burnaby. Joe’s kindness and caring towards his customers led to decades of loyal customers and friendships, and the 67 Shop became an unofficial gathering spot in the neighbourhood to debate the news of the day. Burnaby played an integral part in Joe and his family’s journey.
On behalf of Joe’s family, we want to extend a special thanks to the staff of the George Derby Centre for taking such good care of Joe. In keeping with family wishes and due to Covid restrictions, a small private service at Forest Lawn will be held for his immediate family members on Thursday May 13, 2021.
In lieu of flowers, if family and friends so wish, a donation to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in Joe’s name would be appreciated.
