Gene was born February 21, 1932 to parents Lee Quon Poy and Louis Ting Gar in Toishan province, China. Gene immigrated to Canada in 1949 at age 17 where he learned to be an automotive mechanic. He was a “grease monkey” with blackened hands from fixing cars and heavy-duty trucks for over 30 years before transitioning into property management.
Gene married his wife Shirley in 1959 after a two-year courtship and together they had three children. In the later years, Gene and Shirley loved to travel to Asia, take boat cruises, ballroom dance and practice tai chi.
Family was very important to Gene as his eyes would always sparkle when grandchildren were around. He is survived by his loving wife Shirley; children Wayne, Cindy (Johnson), Herb (Ellie); grandchildren Allyson, Stephanie, Jeffrey, Nicholas, Nicole, Bianca, Madison, and Katrina.
In lieu of flowers the family asks that you consider a donation to Vancouver General Hospital in memory of Gene Quon Lee.
The family has arranged for a chapel and burial service at 1pm Monday July 11 at Forest Lawn in Burnaby. A reception will follow at Top Cantonese Restaurant 2752 Kingsway
