It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved and remarkable matriarch, mother, grandmother, wife, and sister, Chelsea Chau Ha Ng on April 22, 2024 in Vancouver, BC, Canada. She was 86 years old.
Born in Hong Kong on July 15, 1937, Chau Ha overcame tragedy and loss in her family at an early age during WW2 and worked as a nurse and homemaker before moving to Canada in 1989, where she continued to successfully raise and support a loving family and to care for her husband, children, and – later in life – her beloved grandchildren.
Chau Ha’s life was devoted to loving her family, whose gratitude to her is immense and can never be adequately expressed. Her 68-year marriage to the love of her life serves as a foundation and model. Chau Ha instilled in her family a strong work ethic, a love of education, and the importance of valuing family and service to others. She dedicated her life to supporting her children and grandchildren to successfully achieve their dreams.
We are eternally grateful for her tremendous personal sacrifices, encouragement, and guidance. She always put others above her own interests and needs, and the success of her family is a testament to the courage and diligence that she poured into her family life from day to day. She has served as an inspiration to her children and grandchildren to pursue the life of service that they have chosen.
Chau Ha, affectionately called “Mammy” by her children and “Mamoo” by her grandsons, is survived by her family in Canada: husband Jim Lee Chung Fong, daughter Pauline Fong-Leung (husband Kelvin), son Paul Fong (wife Noelle), and grandsons Karlson Leung and Ethan Fong, as well as her brother, sister-in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and relatives in Canada, Hong Kong, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Brazil.
A private viewing for close family (by invitation) will be held at Ocean View Funeral Home at 4000 Imperial Street, Burnaby, on May 2, 2024 from 7:00 to 9:00 PM. A visitation-style funeral for all friends and family will take place at the same location on May 3, 2024 between 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the burial service at 2:30 PM.
In Chelsea Chau Ha Ng’s memory, donations can be made to Vancouver General Hospital, BC Cancer Foundation, or the Heart & Stroke Foundation.
