Born and raised in Hong Kong, Tony went to the sea as a Second Officer on a number of ocean-going vessels. After 10 years of service, Tony decided to upgrade himself, by studying in Melbourne and Tasmania and obtaining a British Master Certificate. His faith in God was always strong during his studies.
Tony immigrated to Canada in 1992 and then returned to Hong Kong in 1997. He worked at a P&I Mutual Insurance Association for handling claims when he met Elaine. With a good offer, he accepted the job as a ship operation manager for managing passenger ferries to and from Saipan and Tinian in the Northern Mariana Islands, a U.S. commonwealth in the Western Pacific for two years.
In 2000, Tony decided to quit the job and returned to Hong Kong for a closer relationship with Elaine. In September 2002, Tony and Elaine got married in the First Assembly of God Church. They celebrated their 20th anniversary in September 2022 under a blessed and happy moment from the Lord.
Tony is an honest, reliable and quiet person. He liked reading and research and was particularly interested in law. He studied law in his spare time and became a qualified lawyer in Hong Kong.
In 2017, Tony chose early retirement in Vancouver but unfortunately started with initial ALS symptoms in mid-2018 and was diagnosed in October 2019. Tony did not surrender and tried every means to research for a cure. He undertook a stem cell treatment in Beijing but it failed to sustain.
Tony was a tough fighter, struggling with ALS for over four years. ALS (Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis) is a progressive and incurable disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord, deteriorating the motor neurons responsible for controlling voluntary muscle movement like chewing, walking, talking and breathing, which leads to a loss of muscle control, respiratory failure and eventually death.
It was heartbreaking that Tony lost his battle with ALS. However, we are grateful that Tony got to say his goodbyes by video to those who were far away before he gained his wings walking over the beautiful rainbow bridge to his final resting place with the Lord.
Tony will always be remembered for his simple and good character, his generosity, and in particular; his faith to the Lord, Jesus Christ.
A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 16 at 10:00am in the Chapel at Forest Lawn Funeral Home, followed by a burial in Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
