Catherine is survived by her parents, Juan and Elizabeth, in Vancouver, and by her younger siblings, Richard, in Vancouver, Maggie and her husband Dietrich, in Maryland, and by Michael and his wife Miranda and their three children Matthew, Mark and Martin, in Richmond.
Catherine was born on August 18, 1962 in Manila, Philippines. Her family moved to Vancouver, Canada in 1981, and she graduated from UBC in 1986 with a Bachelor of Commerce degree in Accounting. She was a CPA and worked as a consultant implementing software systems for various hospitals and health authorities in the Lower Mainland.
In her spare time, Catherine loved to do crafts: knitting toques and vests and creating jewelry. She loved to do puzzles, crosswords and sudoku. She donated her knitting work and rosaries to those in need. She also spent time to help disadvantaged workers in her office with their legal problems.
We will remember Catherine as a most generous person who always gave without hesitation, and for having a kind heart that you could always count on.
She will be missed by all who loved her, especially her family and close friends Maria, Stacy, and cousin Rose, and also by many whom she helped face challenges at work and in life. Her legacy will be the kindness and dedication she showed to those who needed her. In the last few years, she wanted to spread God’s word, but through her deeds she had already done so all her life.
A funeral Mass is scheduled for 10am on Saturday, January 26, 2019 at Immaculate Conception parish church, 3778 West 28th Ave, Vancouver, followed by burial at Ocean View cemetery, 4000 Imperial St, Burnaby, at 2pm on the same day. There will be a viewing starting at 730 pm on Friday, January 25, 2019, also at Immaculate Conception. Fr. Paul Smith, OFM, will celebrate the Mass.
All are welcome to attend and celebrate Catherine's life.
In lieu of flowers, please send donations to https://www.icvancouver.ca/donate, or by writing a cheque to "Immaculate Conception Parish", either way, with a note “building fund”.
The family would like to thank the nurses, caregivers and doctors, and all our relatives and friends who helped us with Catherine’s many needs during her years of struggle with cancer.
