July 25, 1948 -- March 2, 1923
Derek, Nancy and I want to express our Deepest Sympathy and Condolences to you and Jody. We are very sorry that we will not be able to attend Paul’s Celebration of Life Ceremony in Miramar. We are traveling with our camping group to Nashville Tennessee and will pay our respects when we visit his grave site when we get back this September.
But until then I wanted to say, I had the privilege of knowing Paul both professionally and personally for about 40 years. What can you say about a guy like Paul Gates, they broke the mold after God created him. For all of us who really knew him, underneath that Ruff, Tuff, Marine Exterior there was a Man with a Heart of Gold and always willing to offer a helping hand. Paul loved going boating, camping, and fishing, or as he called it, “Just Angling a Rod” not catching anything, while Vacationing he loved visiting Historical Sites, Military Museums and looking for exotic restaurants to tryout. When it came to eating you could bet he would always order Oysters on a Half Shell. I have such great memories of our travels and vacations together with so many funny stories that I will never forget. But most of all having the honor of calling him my Best Friend.
Paul Gates You Will Be Truly Missed.
Semper Fi My Brother, We will meet again on the other side.
“It is said that You Marines May Guard The Gates Of Heaven, But The Seabees Built them and Paved the Road to Heaven.” Thank you for being my friend.
You’ll be in our hearts forever! Love Always, Bob & Nancy Bennett.
A graveside service for Paul will be held Friday, April 28, 2023 from 11:15 AM to 11:45 AM at Miramar National Cemetery, 5795 Nobel Dr., San Diego, CA 92122.
