SALLIE J. PINKSTON, a long time resident of Bulls Gap, TN and most recently of Highlands Ranch, Colorado, passed away at her home, Monday, June 3, 2013, surrounded by her immediate family. Born September 19, 1925 in Hancock County, TN, Sallie Jean Johnson married Howard W. Pinkston in 1948 after moving to Greene County. She is preceded in death by Howard; her parents, Annie and Frank Johnson; siblings, Edith Webb, Marion Johnson, and Reece Johnson; and nephew Larry Johnson.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Darlene and Mike Dougherty; grandchildren, Alaina and Logan of Highlands Ranch, CO; sister and brother-in-law, Agnes and Richard Simerly; and sister-in-law, Polly (Marion) Johnson of Bulls Gap; nieces and nephews, Tony and Sue Webb, Mallon and Pam Simerly, Faye and L.G. Sauceman, Gary Johnson, Donna Brown, and many more from the Pinkston branch of the family. They, their children and grandchildren brought her great joy throughout her life. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and cousin.
Sallie was devoted to Mountain Valley Baptist Church, her family, friends and Tennessee. She loved her flowers and vegetable garden, good food, reading her Bible, sharing her faith, gospel music, her photo album collection, baseball, Tennessee women’s basketball and sunshine on her face. Her smile and laugh were contagious; her blue eyes sparkled when she spoke. She enjoyed many friendships while working for NCR Corporation before retiring in 1990, and never met a stranger.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, June 9, 2013 at 3:00 p.m. at Bulls Gap Funeral Home, Bulls Gap, TN with burial following at Philippi Cemetery, officiated by Rev. Joe Christopher and Rev. Dwain Brewer. Family will receive friends 6 – 8:00 p.m. Saturday, June 8 at Bulls Gap Funeral Home.
