Barker, Hubert C., 88, of Bulls Gap, born October 2, 1924, passed away Wednesday, January 10, 2013 at Heritage Center. He was a member of Bulls Gap Baptist Church for 57 years, where he was the oldest surviving deacon. He was retired from Norfolk Southern Railroad, where he worked for 32 years. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart for service during WWII, where he served in the 513th Parachute Infantry Division, Company E. He was a member of the Bulls Gap Masonic Lodge 764 F&AM, VFW 9683, and the American Legion Post 21. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Lorraine Haun Barker; parents, Lewis and Emma Barker; sisters, Mildred Barker, Imogene Welch; and brothers, Earl and Lewis Barker.
He is survived by son, Sheridan (Vicki) Barker of Talbott; grandson, Bradley Barker of Morristown; granddaughter, Lauren (Joshua) Spivey; great-granddaughters, Ella Grace and Addie Joy Spivey; nieces, Linda (Walt) Plankenhorn, Emma Welch, Martha Wade, Janice Calilung; nephews, Stan Welch, Andrew Plankenhorn, David Barker; and several other nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 11 at 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Bulls Gap Funeral Home. Rev. Stan Welch will officiate. Family and friends will meet in McCullough Cemetery on Saturday at 10:45 a.m. for an 11:00 a.m. graveside service. The family will receive friends from 6 – 8:00 p.m. Friday evening prior to the services at the funeral home.
