Fred grew up in Mattydale, NY and graduated from North Syracuse High School. After graduation, he enlisted in the United States Air Force and later attended Wisconsin State College in Osh Kosh, WI. Fred was a taxi cab driver in several states in his younger years, and was a Domino's Pizza delivery driver in his retirement years. Both jobs were in line with his love of freedom and being on the open road. He moved around a lot throughout his life, living in many states across the country- especially in his younger years. He lived much of his later years in Tallahassee before moving to Arizona in 2018 to seek better medical care.
Ever since he was a child, he had a passion for astronomy and the constellations. He loved traveling (he had visited every major city in the U.S. except San Diego), enjoying good food, visiting the casinos, playing tennis, bowling, watching Jeopardy and college football, playing Yahtzee, and reminiscing about the past. His siblings have fond memories of his great storytelling. He was proud to: be Italian, be mathematically adept, have a high IQ, and to have been in the U.S. Air Force (and to be a Veteran).
He is survived by his son John (Dora) Wagner of Northborough, MA; his daughter Jennifer (Andy) Martel of West Boylston, MA; his former wife Elizabeth (John & Jennifer's Mom); two granddaughters: Toni and Emma; one brother John Wagner of Fort Myers, FL; two sisters: Eleanor Ivanoff of Centennial, CO and Theresa (Jim) Weiss of Laurel, DE; and many nieces and nephews.
Fred was predeceased by his beloved wife of 33 years, Josephine; his parents John & Rose Wagner; three brothers Richard, William and Robert; and three sisters Lucy, Irene, and MaryAnne.
His family would like to extend many thanks to Helen Ekholt, Daniel Ladwig, the nurses at Compassus Hospice, staff at Fresenius Kidney Care, and the doctors and nurses at Western Arizona Regional Medical Center.
Due to the extraordinary circumstances and travel restrictions caused by the coronavirus, celebration of life and spreading of his ashes and/or burial will be at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to Veterans Resource Center at 1343 Hancock Road, Bullhead City, AZ 86442 or Compassus Hospice at 2755 Silver Creek Rd #211, Bullhead City, AZ 86442.
