Nancy Jeanne Westmoreland, 88, of Dickinson, passed away on May 27, 2024, in Bryan, Texas. Nancy was born in Milliken, Colorado to George and Maudie Mahood, October 13, 1935. As a child, with her parents and her brother, Robert “Bunny” Mahood, she moved to Texas City. When she was 11 years old, she experienced the Texas City Disaster. She had memories of that devastating explosion as a sixth grader in school that fateful morning. Nancy graduated from Texas City High School in May 1953. She married in June 1953, and had four children, Don, Cathy, Henry, and Matt. She was a loving and devoted mother, busy and active, supporting her children in all their sports and activities. She was a member of First Presbyterian Church in Dickinson. In 1968 she went to work at Citizens State Bank in Dickinson, enjoying a career of over forty years and making many lifetime friends. Also, in the early seventies she worked in accounting at Houston International Speedway. Nancy was a fan, and loved watching the Longhorns, Astros, Oilers, and Texans. She really enjoyed NASCAR Racing, and even traveled to the Daytona 500 several times. She was proud of her 2001 Chevrolet Monte Carlo Pace Car. Above all, Mother, “Nana,” adored her children and grandchildren, they were everything to her. She loved being involved and spending time with them. Christmas was her favorite, she loved decorating her home, and making Christmas magical for her family. Nancy was a beautiful, Mother, Grandmother, Great Grandmother, and friend. She will be greatly missed.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents George and Maudie Mahood; brother, Robert “Bunny” Mahood; niece, Gina Mahood; son-in-law, Mike Bruton; daughter-in-law Phyllis Westmoreland. Nancy is survived by her four children, Don Westmoreland Jr. (Cheryl), Cathy Hyatt (Dale), Henry Westmoreland (Kelly), Matt Westmoreland. Seven Grandchildren, Terry J. Bishop Jr. (Hester), Ernie Surman III (Erin), Paula Surman, Raeshell Diaz (Justin), Uriah Westmoreland (Tabitha), Shanara Cresswell (Seth), Shawn Westmoreland (Amber). Nineteen Great Grandchildren, one Great Great Granddaughter and Nephew, Johnny Mahood (Dorothy).
The funeral will be held at Memorial Funeral Chapel, 1515 South College Ave. Bryan, Texas, June 4, 2024. Visitation will be from 12:00 to 1:00 followed by the funeral at 1:00.
Interment will be a private family service at Reliance Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Terry J. Bishop, Jr., Ernie Surman III, Gavin Surman-Rivera, Justin Diaz, Logan Diza, and Johnny Mahood.
