Born in San Saba, Texas on June 5, 1932 to George W. and Lois Chapman, he was the youngest of four siblings. Proud of his ancestry, Milton’s family came to Texas settling in the east part of the state. Chapman, Texas, now known as Blessing Hill, is eight miles east of Henderson.
At an early age, Milton’s family moved to Early, Texas where he lettered in football and track. In 1952, Milton joined the U.S. Air Force serving tours in the states and in the Far East as an air traffic controller. His name appears on the Brazos Valley Veterans Memorial Wall of Honor. After leaving the service, he worked in the oil industry, and it was during this period, 1958 to be exact, he met and married the love of his life Mary Lois McGilberry. Shortly afterwards, Milton had the opportunity to work at a bank and remained in the industry for over thirty years, retiring as a vice-president. Once retired, he and Mary owned and managed commercial real estate investments. A Baptist deacon since 1965, his faith carved a life of service through his church. He served as a Sunday school teacher, director, usher, assistant treasurer, and participated in many other ministries. A long-time member and past president of the Bryan Kiwanis, Milton’s love of people clenched the heart of all, but his family granted him his biggest blessings of all. His pride showed every time he spoke about any of them.
Milton was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, George Chapman Jr., and his sisters, Mae Aydelott, and Billie Chance.
He is survived by his wife Mary, his sons, Rostell Chapman and his wife Janet, Paul Chapman and his wife Sara; his four grandchildren, Alison Fly and her husband Trey, Lauren Turner and her husband, Travis, Stephanie Chapman, Aaron Chapman; three great-grandchildren: Aubrey, Emilie and Ford; and nine nieces and nephews.
The Chapman family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Michael Jones, Dr. Kumud Tripathy, Dr. Scott Spencer, Brittany and Courtney at CHI St. Joseph Hospital for their hard work and excellent service during his stay there.
