The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 8:00 PM, Monday, April 3rd, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Funeral services are scheduled for 10:00 AM Tuesday, April 4th, 2017 at Memorial Funeral Chapel in Bryan. Interment will follow at Mt. Calvary Catholic Cemetery in Bryan, with full military honors.
Ken was born in Brookwood, Alabama on October 11, 1933 to Casey and Dorothy Jennings. Ken joined the Navy at age 19. During his time in the Navy, Ken fought in the Korean and Vietnam Wars and advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. He had the opportunity to travel across the globe and was stationed in Hawaii, the Philippines, New Mexico, Virginia, and California among others. He met Ann in 1962 and they were married a few years later at Moores Bridge Baptist Church. In 1967 they welcomed another member into their family when Cindy was born. Ken retired from the Navy in 1972 and moved his family to Bryan, Texas where he started a new career with GTE.
Ken retired from GTE in 1994 and pursued a number of hobbies. He was an active hunter and fisherman, enjoyed building and fixing anything he could, and cooked barbeque regularly for family gatherings. When he wasn’t out working in his tool shed, he loved to spend time with his family.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Casey Jennings and Dorothy Evelyn Jennings, his son Kenneth Jay Jennings, and his sister Sue Largin.
He leaves behind his devoted wife of 52 years, Ann Jennings, daughter, Cindy Jennings Gillar, husband, Mark of Bryan, Texas and grandson Chris Gillar of Austin, Texas. Also mourning his passing is his younger sister Betty Jennings Ray of Pensacola, Florida, along with his nieces, and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Mark Gillar, Chris Gillar, Ken Largin, Mike Largin, Wayne Allen, and James Allen. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne Largin, Dean Allen, and Ed Gillar.
Officiating will be his friend and pastor Don Loftin from Trinity Baptist Church in Broaddus, Texas.
The family would like to thank all the doctors and nurses at St. Joseph Regional Hospital, HealthSouth Rehab Center, and Hospice Brazos Valley.
